پلت٬ درختی خزان کننده از تیرهی ناترکیان و بومی جنگلهای شمال ایران است. این گونه تا ارتفاع ۲۰۰۰ متری از سطح دریا پراکنش دارد. درختی است به بلندی تا بیشتر از ۲۰ متر که در طبیعت بلندی آن تا ۴۰ متر میرسد.
برگها پنجهای٬ به طول تا ۲۵ به عرض ۲۵ سانتیمتر٬ روی سطح فوقانی برگها سبزتیرهتر و در سطح تحتانی روشنتر است. سطح تحتانی برگها کرکدار – مخملی است. گل آذین آن انبوه و پرگل٬ از نوع دیهیم مرکب است. زمان گلدهی فروردین تا اردیبهشت است. میوهها فندقه بالدار به طول ۴.۵ به عرض ۱.۵ سانتیمتر است.
Acer velutinum
Acer velutinum, the Persian maple, is a deciduous tree in the family sapindaceae. It is native to Northen Iran, Caucasus and grows in the moist Caspian Hyrcanian mixed forests.
It is a tall tree growing to over 40m in the wild.The bark is grey-brown and smooth. The leaves are palmately lobed, to 25cm long and across with usually five coarsely toothed lobes, yellow-green on the upper surface, paler on the lower surface, and on long stalks.
The flowers are small and green, in large, upright clusters. They appear in late spring just after the young leaves emerge. Fruits with large wings is set at right angles, to 4cm long and ripen in autumn
