نمدار، درختی خزان کننده از تیرۀ پنیرکیان و بومی شمال ایران، شمال آناتولی و قفقاز است. رشد سریع دارد و بلندی آن در طبیعت به ۳۰ متر می رسد.
تنۀ آن خاکستری تیره با شکاف هایی در پوسته است. برگ ها قلبی نامتقارن و پهن به طول تا ۱۵ سانتی متر و با رگبرگ های مشخص و دندانه های اره ای است. روی برگ ها سبز تیره و سطح زیرین آنها سبز روشن و در محور رگبرگ ها کرکدار است. گل ها زرد روشن و معطر در اوایل تابستان در خوشه های آویخته ظاهر می شوند. هر خوشه دارای یک براکت سبز کمرنگ به طول ۱۲ سانتیمتر است. میوه ها فندقه با پوستۀ چوبی به قطر تا یک سانتیمتر در اواخر تابستان تا اوایل پاییز تشکیل می شود.
Tilia platyphyllos
Tilia platyphyllos, the large-leaved linden, is a deciduous tree in the family Malvaceae. It is native to South-west Asia and Europe.
It is a large, domed-top tree with a clean straight trunk growing to over 30m in the wild. The bark is grey with shallow fissures in maturity. The foliage consists of simple, alternately arranged leaves. The leaves are large and rounded, up to 15cm across and deeply veined. They are deep green above and light green with white downy hair, particularly along the veins on the underside. Flowers are pale yellow, very fragrant and produced in early summer in drooping clusters, each cluster with a pale green bract to 12 cm long. The fruit is a round nutlet with a diameter of 1 cm or less with a woody shell, borne on a stalk in late summer and early autumn.
